Finished Project Friday

Welcome to my first Finished Project Friday!  May was a very busy month for me with lots of little trips, crazy changes at work and lots of general business, but I made sure to get my crafting time in!  I find it very therapeutic to create, even if I just complete one step, or a few cuts for a project, I still feel productive!

I completed a few projects on Swap-Bot, including a blue whimsey jar, small drawstring pouch, crocheted amigurumi food guy, fat quarter and a ribbon, and a crochet flower swap!  Of course I forgot to take pics of most of them until they were hermetically sealed for mailing...'doh!

Received swap, Totally awesome red hibiscus lining!

Sent Swap, ami cuppy cake!

I also finished some giftables, a purse for my mom with a combo of these two tutorials: Fat Quarter Bag and Zipper Pocket

As well as some things for my sister's birthday, upcycled t-shirt shorts and cosmetic bag.  The bag is for a swap, but I wanted a practice one, which came out awesome, and made a second for me!

I also had a very awesome "I could so make that" hair bow moment, using this tutorial from 7 Layer Studio, just to balance the awful gator shirt-->pants with some 'Canes awesomeness:

 Exciting things coming for June:

Clover and Violet Embroidery 101 Quilt-A-Long
Craft Apron Swap
Poochie Bag Swap

Happy Friday!

Sew Mamma Sew, May Day Giveaway

So I found out about the SMS May Day Giveaway after it had already started.  If you've never heard of this before it is AMAZING!!  SMS orchestrates a giveaway between around 300 vendors, bloggers and crafters for homemade crafts, crafting supplies, and vendor items.  You visit the lists and pick which blogs you want to visit and enter, but you only have like 3 days to do them all.  Some blogs require you to complete tasks like follow, comment or like and some just request any comment and random generator select a winner.  I frantically entered as many as I could before the deadline hoping to maybe win one.  A few had over 800 entries by the time I got there but...

I WON TWO!!  Wooo hoooo!!  I won a zipper pouch from During Quiet Time and a pin cushion from Little Peanut!!  I was am so excited, between these two, some ebay purchases and swaps, it's been like little Christmas!

Woot!! Completed Projects-Pallooza!

Ok, so after I found craftster I realized it will be a while (3mo) I believe before I qualify to swap...so I then found Swap-Bot, a whole site just for crafting!!  I've done two swaps, one crochet and one twinchie, and am completing my third (crochet) with two more on the way!  This is soo soo fun!  I had a reason to crochet a scarf, it was my first and being that it's April in south Florida, I am glad to send it off to someone who can use it and will appreciate as much as I do!  I also had an "order" from my friend Amy for another UM blanket and burp cloth set for her sister in law!  So without further ado...

Bag I crocheted for my second swap:  Pattern From:  Easy as Pie Purse

Scarf for my second Crochet Swap:  Pattern From: Crochet Spot  and I added a few flowers on snap hair clips for multi-use!

First ever twinchie:  2x2 fabric trading card

Adorable micro pleated skirt from Craftster archives for clothing:

Craft-tastic weekend!

I am a "self taught" crocheter, I learn everything through you tube, about.com, and other crafters' patterns.  I love being new because it's all exciting, there are a million communities for all kinds of crafters and everyone is so welcoming of newbies!  This weekend,  I discovered crafster, a home made forum for swaps, idea sharing, challenges and you name it with an overabundance of awesome alternative/modern/urban whatever you want to call it crafters!!  I also found Lynnie Pinnie an awesome machine applique/embroidery website with some super cheap, totally cute designs and a great sale going on!  For this weekend's projects, I discovered some new crochet patterns and played with my embroidery machine a bit.

First up, I made a crochet headband for my girlfriend's baby's baptism. I got the pattern from: Calleighs Clips as linked through all crafts, an amazing everything craft database (sewing patterns/tutorials, crochet patterns/tutorials etc), and the pattern for the flower, also througth all crafts, at Alli's blog, AlliCrafts:

So for the second project of the weekend I mad an amigurumi cupcake pin cushion, a little bigger than I though it'd be, but totally cute!  From the crafster crochet forum for free crochet patterns: Cupcake amigurumi

And finally, I embroidered a totally me sparrow, tattoo style of course, on an old blue hoodie:

 That is all for now!!

More Finished Projects!!

Since my last post I have finished a few more projects, both crochet and sewing!

First up, mother/daughter tote bags for my aunt who had the grand opening of her baker A Cake In Time this weekend, based on this design: Free Quilted Tote.  Aunt Sherry's Bag is about 13.5x13.5x13.5, with two inner pockets.  Hannah's bag is envelope style with no side or bottom panels, also 13.5x13.5 with two inner pockets.  I modified the original design by losing one row of squares off the front and back, and one square off the sides and bottom for Sherry, and losing a row of squares front and back, and losing the side and bottom panels all together.

Next up it's the easy peasy quick crochet baby hoodie from lion brand that I posted last update!  Super easy and super quick, but I am definitely learning to check my guage!

The pre-packaged, cut and sew yourself baby blanket...finished quite a while ago but never posted pics!!  Turtles, my FAVORITE!!  This one is going in the for my future baby box!

Next up, the super awesome brother SE-400 sewing and embroidery machine my husband got me for my 27th birthday on 3/3.  I LOVE it, I would never spend this kind of money on myself for a hobby, so I am absolutely stoked!!  I already know how to use it, bought a few turtle embroidery and applique designs, and made my first embroidered item, two little turtles on a future quilting or something square!!

What's next?  Not sure!!  I do have a baptism coming up for a friend's baby in April, let's see what I can come up with!

Crafting Update Time!!

Well, it's been a crazy 2011 so far!  Especially with work, so I've been turning to crafting A LOT!  I've been both crocheting and sewing...here's a look at what I've been up to!!

Some baby shower gifts for my friends Amy and Enrique from PT school, daddy to be is a big 'CANES fan like me so I was all to happy to bust out the orange and green!  My first attempt at a fleece blanket with satin ribbon binding, a UM burp cloth to match, and a green and brown minkee burp cloth for the mamma!

A window valence for my living room sliders with the help of my amazing mother, who once owned an upholstery shop...deal of the century too, I believe I got the fabric 50% off at Joann's plus an additional 20%!!  I also have enough left to make some throw pillows...and just in case I picked up a one yard remnant for 40% off regular price, plus an additional 50% off for being a remnant!

I'm also working on a crocheted baby blanket, this is not a quick project, but it is on going, a pattern I found on about.com, a great resource .

Some hats I crocheted for my recent amazing trip to NY where I got to visit some friends, some family and attend a course on pediatric Kinesiotaping, which was as awesome as I'd hoped it'd be!  The blue one came out way more like a babushka than a beenie, but the grey one has a visor and came out pretty awesome!  I also crocheted another visor beenie, but I can't find it right now, and I wanted to get this post up!

Other ongoing projects include a cupcake patchwork tote bag for my aunt in NY who has the grand opening of her bakery, A Cake in Time in NY next weekend, it even has her logo on one of the squares!  Also, a quick baby sweater from Lionbrand yarn , should be done this weekend as well, pics of both to follow!

I think that's all for now, but I'll update again as soon as I finish a few more projects!  I really like having a few quick instant gratification projects and a few long term projects going on at the same time.  I also like having both sewing and crochet projects going as well, I can crochet in bed or on the couch watching TV with the hubs!
